Then you've come to the right place ! We have open membership, EVERYONE is welcome! Join anytime! APPLY NOW  -  Many of our members belong to multiple clubs. There are Puppies available and litters expected in 2010. This is an Excellent time to think about adding a Podengo Pequeno to your home.

• The Podengo Pequeno is a Primitive hunting breed that is slightly longer in body than tall at the withers.
• They are Hounds even though they resemble terriers.
• They are used to hunt rabbits in dense cover still to this day in their native Portugal.
• They can compete in AKC Companion events (Obedience, Rally, Agility).
• They can be exhibited in AKC B matches if the breed has been included by the hosting club.
• Podengo  Pequeno's range in size from  8 inches to a maximum of 12.5 inches tall at the wither or 20-30 cm.
• This is a table breed, they weigh roughly 8-14 pounds.  
  
• The breed comes in 2 types: Smooth (with undercoat) and Wire (lacking undercoat). 
• The most common type of Podengo Pequeno in the US is the Wire variety making up nearly 80% of the population.
• They can be wary of strangers. 
• We maintain Domestic and historical pedigree records on 2,200 + Pequeno's.

• Update: Wednesday, January 20, 2010 - There are 286 AKC-FSS recorded Pequenos, 276 have 3 Generation Pedigrees and a further 10 with less than a 3 Generation Pedigree.
• There are  42+ with 3 generation pedigrees yet to be recorded (Most are Domestic Born). 
• then there are all the unrecorded imports....Why spend thousands to import a dog yet not spend the $35 to record them??
• This brings our total to: 328+ Pequeno's residing in the US.
• Go to: AKC.org, Login or create a "MY AKC" account.
• Then on the left hand side, Under title: My dogs and Litters, click on: Manage dogs.  
• Once there, you can "ADD dogs".
• You can put in a dogs name to see if they are recorded, by using the "dogs of Interest" feature.
• If they are, their AKC-FSS number will appear under the dogs name.
